Qatar National Day (Arabic: اليوم الوطني لقطر) is the anniversary of the unification of Qatar in 1878. It is celebrated on 18 December each year across Qatar. The date was established for a national holiday on 21 June 2007 by a decree of the then Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Most citizens are given the day off at public workplaces and schools are closed on this day. The National Day of Qatar is also known as Founder’s Day.

On December 18, 1878, Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani succeeded his father, Mohammed bin Thani, as the new emir (ruler) of the Qatar Peninsula. He is believed to have unified all the local tribes by fighting against outside powers such as the British. He also gained a great deal of autonomy for the tribes on the peninsula. Thus, after a long period, December 14 was established as National Day on June 21, 2007. It was previously celebrated on September 3, Qatar’s Independence Day.

The national flag of Qatar (Arabic: علم قطر) is a white band on the hoist side, with a maroon area on the fly side separated by nine white triangles which function as a serrated line. It has a proportion of 11:28. It was adopted on July 9, 1971, shortly before the country's independence from Britain on September 3, 1971.

National Anthem of Qatar

"as-Salām al-ʾAmīrī" (Arabic: السلام الأميري) is Qatar's national anthem. It was written by al-Shaykh Mubārak bin Sayf al-Thānī and composed by ʿAbdulʿazīz Nāṣṣir al-ʿUbaydān al-Fakhrū. It was officially adopted on 7 December 1996.
