History of Mother's Day
There is no more special word than the word "Mother". After birth, this word is most pronounced in the human mouth. On Mother's Day, children do something special for their mother, thank her, hug her, and kiss her with love. But do you know how did the day come about? Why is this Mother's Day celebrated? It may be unknown to many. So today we are going to discuss the history of Mother's Day-
The history of Mother's Day is very old. So it is very difficult to tell its exact history. Knowing exactly when it started is still unknown. However, the day is believed to have originated in ancient Greece. Mother worship was practiced in ancient Greece at that time. They celebrated a festival dedicated to Sibyl, a prominent goddess among the Greek gods. Later in Rome, this festival was celebrated between March 15 and March 18. In addition to this festival, the ancient Romans had a holiday dedicated to their goddess, and gifts were given to mothers on that day.
Many ceremonies were held to honor mothers throughout the ages in Europe and the UK to maintain this ancient ritual. A certain Sunday was set aside for the ritual. However, in the United States, Julia Ward Howe's written "Mother's Day Proclamation" played a major role in the celebration of Mather's Day. Julia wrote it in 1870 against the atrocities of the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War.
Initially, Mother's Day did not become international because there was no specific day for the day. However, in 1912, Mother's Day became a full-fledged day by setting up the "Mother's Day International Association". Anna Jarvis (1864–1948) was behind the establishment of the association.
Anna Jarvis was the founder of Mother's Day in America. She widely promoted this day on the second Sunday of May. Later, Julia Ward Howe came forward with the aim of making Mother's Day universal. In 1914, American President Woodrow Wilson gave the day national recognition. Since then, the custom of celebrating Mother's Day has gradually spread throughout the world.
